Publisher Marketing Overview
Marketing a book is a vital, ongoing process for publishers.
Our marketing efforts begin with developing a Marketing Plan that grows and develops as the manuscript moves through the project process. This plan remains an important resource even after the book has been launched and later marketing campaigns may be developed.
Marketing Plan Development
We develop a Marketing Plan for all White Deer Publishing books included in your contract. Each Marketing Plan includes:
- Audience targeting development (primary and secondary)
- Comparative titles (used to inspire marketing ideas and develop ad targeting)
- Keyword development
- Custom social media content and marketing collateral for authors to repost
- Early Reviewer (Advanced Reader) program; optional trade/media review program (schedule allowing)
- Development of downloadable additional and/or exclusive content (pre-order incentives)
- Offers/giveaway and discount ideas; WDP-led campaign development/management
- Networking support (industry event research, colleague outreach ideas, help planning launch event)
- Book branding documentation (colors, fonts, existing digital assets)
Standard Advertising and Award Submissions
Our Marketing Plans also include the following as a standard for White Deer Publishing-led marketing:
- Social media ads (boosted posts)
- Ingram iPage ad (appears on homepage of Ingram’s ordering platform — the most commonly used book wholesaler — as well as in three bookseller and library newsletters with 28,000 email circulation)
- IBPA Book Award submission

- Advance Information (AI) Sheet
- Initial Author Profiles setup (How2Conquer website, Amazon Author Central)
