FAQs

Author Branding and Online Platforms packages include an initial cost for the first year followed by an ongoing maintenance/hosting cost in subsequent years. See our current packages available. Packages can be paid monthly or annually.

Authors must purchase their own domain and maintain their account/billing, and they must invite White Deer Publishing as a collaborator on their account so we can access the DNS records.

Alternatively, if an author would like White Deer Publishing to purchase and manage the domain account, this can be added to our standard package cost.

Author websites will be hosted on White Deer Publishing’s Flywheel account.

To manage your website, you’ll only need to login to your website itself. If you need SFTP access, we can add you as a collaborator on Flywheel.

Once you’ve chosen one of our Author Online Platforms packages, we have a process we follow to gather information from you, present our work, and get your feedback. We’ll keep you updated as we progress. But whether your website and social platforms are live or not, you can always reach us by Slack or email. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.

All packages include initial content setup on the webpages included. We’ll base this off information we gather from you and any existing platform/online presence you have.

Please see our current packages available for details. For examples of content included and where it will appear, see our website demos.

White Deer Publishing will:

  • Complete a monthly website check
  • Complete plugin updates
  • Remedy any technical issues that may arise
  • Answer questions sent via Slack or email
  • On request, schedule an annual meeting to check in about what’s working, what’s not, and anything you may need help with on your website

Authors can also make requests for website updates from White Deer Publishing, within reason. If we estimate a request will require more than 1-2 hours of work to complete, we’ll put together a scope of work for you to review.

Some of our authors want a fairly “hands off” approach with the techy side of things, which is why we include a basic website maintenance option. This option covers regular website checks as well as an “on call” kind of approach to tech fixes.

One of the big things the monthly review checks is plugin updates. These are really important because they improve your site’s security and performance. For example, some plugin updates address vulnerabilities or known issues to keep your site safe from hackers.

Although you can set some plugins to automatically update, it’s best to complete the update manually to ensure it doesn’t create an issue. (We actually had this happen once a plugin update conflicted with another plugin, making the entire site inaccessible. We had to roll the site back to the last backed up version.)

Plugins are updated on varying schedules depending on the developer, so while we aim to review every site at least once a month, in reality we’d be checking in more frequently whenever a plugin needed to be updated.

If you encountered any issues or needed our help with a tech fix, all you’d need to do is reach out to us.

We’d love to help you start or update your online presence and branding.

Let’s discuss your goals and see what we can do to help you reach your readers.
